Help, I need product suggestions!
I often give presentations focusing on organizing particular spaces. On this page you'll find my product recommendations for different organizing needs. Click on any photo to be taken to Amazon to purchase.
A few things to keep in mind when shopping:
-
MEASURE: Make sure the product you're purchasing will fit in the space you're buying it for. There's nothing worse than getting what seems like the ideal container home, only to have it not fit in a drawer or hang off the edge of a shelf.
-
KNOW WHAT YOU PLAN TO PUT IN THE CONTAINER YOU'RE BUYING: Liquids are best in flat-bottom, waterproof/water-resistant containers. Soft sided baskets are better for blankets, towels or some clothing.

DORM ROOM
These items are things I have found that seem to help make small spaces more functional and comfortable. Extend closet storage with a double-hang rod or multi-pant hanger. Use risers to elevate a bed while adding plugs at the same time. Mattress toppers are crucial to enhance standard dorm mattress comfort levels. Fans and air purifiers are especially helpful in dorms without air conditioning. Zipper bags can help get a lot of items to wherever your student is headed and can be easily stored when not in use. Going vertical is a great way to add "space." Use the back of doors! Shoe holders aren't just for shoes - you can store snacks, personal care items or other necessities in the pockets.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is the heart of most homes, and the place where organization can have the biggest impact. Removing items from boxes and decanting them into bins or baskets is an easy way to track your inventory and keep from overbuying products. Limit what you buy to what can fit in your containers. Labeling is key for making sure things not only end up where they are supposed to be, but for ensuring you and your household members can easily find what they are looking for. Decanting food, such as flour or sugar, is a personal preference. Keeping these items in an airtight container is a benefit of doing so, and also makes it easy to see when you are running low. Lazy Susans are great not only on countertops for easy to reach, frequently used items such as cooking oil, salt and pepper, but also in cabinets for storing similar items, or even in the fridge for salad dressings and other condiments.
STORAGE
Using baskets, bins, boxes, and vertical storage options are all a great way stay organized. Giving household items a specific home makes tidying and finding what you want, when you want it, so much easier. Many of these items can be used in any room in the house: Entryway, bedroom, bathroom or kitchen.
